Odessa Heroes Project

The “Odessa Heroes Project” began as a project initiated by the tragic shooting of three Odessa (Texas) Police Department officers. On September 8, 2007, Odessa Police Department Corporals Arlie Jones, Scott Gardner and Abel Marquez were shot in the line of duty. Corporals Jones and Gardner died at the scene and Corporal Marquez died a few days later of his wounds.

As a result of this tragic event, a tremendous outpour of support to the families of the fallen officers came from all over the United States. Benevolence Funds were established for the families of those officers and the support to the families will continue for several years. The Executive Board of Tiger Tale Publishing and Production Companies of Odessa, Texas, felt it was their duty to provide support not only to the families of the slain officers, but also to the men and women still serving in Odessa’s law enforcement community every day.

The author of Doodles The American Hero, Cynthia L. Clack, wrote the book and continues to dedicate it to all children whose parents are our American heroes: serving in our Armed Forces and National Guard, as well as rescue workers throughout our country including law enforcement officers, firefighters, ambulance personnel, and paramedics. With this in mind, a Special Edition of Doodles The American Hero book was completed, dedicating the book to Arlie Jones, Scott Gardner and Abel Marquez.
